A pioneering hero and model for young men from the early 1980's until 2020. He was a member of multitude of counsels, coalitions, and organizations becoming the voice and advocate for best interest of the undeserved and disfranchised people in Galveston. The MOST notable effort was that Coach never gave up on working in/for OUR community.

J.J. Shabazz affectionately known by the community as "Coach Jib," was the first Muslim to run for Mayor in the city of Galveston. While standing out as as a coach in the legendary Ray T. Shepherd baseball league. A huge advocate for prison reform. He went over and beyond as a guide and steward of moral principal in every person he encountered. He truly believed his good works and community contributions was the most valuable investments a man could make. His loyal and dedication to the annual Juneteenth Parade and picnic was nothing short of sheer. He wanted to ensure every child had something to look foward too. With that in mind Dr. Craig Brown officially named June 19th "Juneteenth" Jama Jihad "Coach Jib" Shabazz Day.
To continue the rich legacy of "Coach Jib." Improving lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities to advance the common good. Representing consciousness youth development through positive male and female mentorship.
